NRM is looking for a Wetland Scientist to join our growing environmental team. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working both in the field and with clients, combining environmental science, regulatory knowledge, and project support to advance complex projects.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct wetland delineations and prepare supporting maps, reports, and regulatory documentation
- Perform environmental field investigations, including soil, groundwater, surface water, and stormwater sampling and inspections
- Identify and assess wetlands, streams, vegetation, hydrology, and other natural resources
- Support wetland permitting, mitigation compliance, alternatives analyses, and related regulatory requirements
- Assist with environmental permitting and compliance for mining, industrial, commercial, and development projects
- Coordinate with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies throughout the permitting process
- Analyze field and laboratory data and prepare clear, accurate technical reports
- Manage assigned projects within scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations
- Work directly with clients and project teams while supporting proposals and new business opportunities
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, engineering, or a related scientific discipline
- At least one year of experience conducting environmental field investigations, wetland assessments, or related scientific fieldwork
- Knowledge of wetland delineation methods and environmental regulations
- Strong technical writing, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively as part of a project team
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as project needs require
OSHA 40-hour certification and experience working with wetland requirements in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana are preferred. The successful candidate should also be willing to obtain Michigan wetland training certification and participate in ongoing professional development.
